Community Care Ministries exists to provide spiritual and social ministry to the needy in the name of Jesus Christ and to be a transforming influence in the community.

It consists of a group of spiritually motivated men, women and young people who engage in compassionate, caring ministry, coming alongside the vulnerable, the lonely, the sick and the aged with love and acts of mercy.Members of the CCM team visiting residents at Thorncliffe Place.

Its main focus is on building a better community through care and prayer, and on expressing the love of Christ in a practical way by reaching out to the lonely and hurting in our communities.

The Community Care Ministries of The Salvation Army Barrhaven Church is an outreach service to isolated or lonely Seniors. Most of our visits are to Nursing Homes and Retirement Homes. Our volunteers are committed to bringing cheer and hope to those who may be isolated due to their circumstances. Weekly and monthly visits are conducted in area Nursing Homes as well as monthly ‘Hymn Sing’ events. Members of the Community Care Ministries Team are not only part of the Barrhaven Church but are also friends of The Salvation Army who commit to visitation. At Christmas time each Resident of a Nursing Home facility receives a special gift.

The Community Care Members also provide ‘free’ treats to Students during Exam breaks at Algonquin College. This takes place during the spring and the winter exams. The students cannot believe that the food is free and are grateful for the assistance during a stressful time in their lives.A group of volunteers from The Salvation Army have food set out on a table to serve to Algonquin College students.

We are challenged by words from Scripture, Matthew 25: 35, 36 that say:

‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me. I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

Verse 40: The King will reply ‘I tell yo the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
